Being in an industrial industry requires a great deal of due diligence and rigorous safety protocols. At Qatar Cool we have published an integrated Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality (HSSEQ) Policy. The policy aligns to the international ISO standards, ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

The policy spans to the employees, contractors, suppliers, and visitors alike, all of whom are held to the standards of the policy in all dealings. The significance to safety is apparent from its inclusion in our core values ‘concern for HSE’ as well as being a fundamental part in our Framework of Excellence.

At Qatar Cool we care for our people, the environment, and our communities. We are committed to the efficient use of resources, conservation, waste management and preventative actions. We have a stringent Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Quality Policy and culture within the organization, covering our operations, conduct and people.

Safety Inspections

HSE Committees

In our strive for excellence we have established cross functional health and safety committees throughout the organization. Our Executive Steering Committee spearheads the HSSE sub-committees, led by the CEO and supported by the Senior Management Team. Regular monthly meetings and site visits are conducted by the committee members, with weekly performance reviews by the CEO and Senior Management. Our management treat HSSE as an integral part of the day-to-day activities, cascading the importance throughout the organization.

Policies and Procedures

We have developed and are continually improving policies, procedures and systems that comply with relevant regulations and standards through our intricate Framework of Excellence. Through our Framework of Excellence multiple systems are in place to aid Qatar Cool achieve its HSSE objectives. Our systems in HSSE range from competence assurance, risk management, occupational health and safety, environmental management to incident and emergency management.

Systems

We have defined and implemented several safe systems of work, for employees and contractors they are managed through our Permit to Work (PTW) system, and include working at height, confined space entry, electrical isolation amongst others all of which are underpinned through robust Method Statements and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) with all being rigorously followed and audited. All employees and contractors understand the defined Qatar Cool Life Saving Rules.

Emergency Response

Emergency response is important to Qatar Cool for its people and the surrounding community. Plans for emergency response scenarios are defined and implemented, with regular training for those involved in the execution. Regular evacuation drills are conducted, response time and effectiveness are monitored, and improvement is ensured against past achievements and results. This is often done in coordination with the Civil Defense Department (CDD).

HSSE Training

We provide appropriate Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) training to all our employees, our contractors, and visitors. From the moment a new employee joins the organization, a contractor is appointed, or a visitor crosses the threshold they undergo HSSE training with refresher training being carried out periodically if required.

Safety Passport

Qatar Cool has implemented its Safety Passport training which is applicable to identified employees and contractors. Furthermore, daily safety toolbox talks are carried out in all our plants with the employees and contractors. The training is coupled by regular risk assessments and hazard identification in relation to workplace hazards, risks, and the required controls. To compliment the training of employees and contractors, there are several safety bulletins boards throughout the plants and offices. They include monthly HSSE newsletters, safety behaviours, performance data, notices and lessons learnt.

Safety Champions

A new initiative launched by our HSSE team involves the appointment of safety champions throughout all areas of our workplace, including our offices. The champions are provided training in the role and will arrange and lead the delivery of monthly safety meetings for their appointed area.

Behavioral Based Safety Program

Qatar Cool has implemented a behavioural based safety program, this provides a mechanism and encourages employees, contractors, and visitors to report unsafe conditions and behaviours that are then reviewed and analysed and addressed accordingly through the HSSE Department. Those that participate in the behaviour-based safety program are recognized and rewarded monthly with the recognition being communicated to the whole organization through the monthly safety bulletin.
