Qatar Cool Wins Two Prestigious International Awards
Qatar District Cooling Company also known as Qatar Cool, a major district cooling company in the region, was recently announced the winner of the ‘2014 Space Award for the total area committed’ and the ‘2014 Space Award for the total number of buildings committed’ during the International District Energy Association’s (IDEA) 106th Annual Conference and Trade Show 2015, held in Boston, USA from 28th June – 1st July.
The new awards recognize the witnessed growth in the number of buildings and total area connected to district cooling in the districts served, where Qatar Cool currently owns and operates two plants in the West Bay district and is currently building a third one to meet the growing demand, whereas The Pearl-Qatar district is home for the largest district cooling plant in the world, also owned and operated by Qatar Cool.
Mohannad Khader, Vice President- Commercial, received the awards on behalf of the company while attending the conference, which was held under the theme “Inspiring the next generation”; the conference also discussed many important topics such as mobilizing industry growth and investment, water & sustainability, community energy planning and assessment & feasibility.
Yasser S. Al-Jaidah, Chief Executive Officer at Qatar Cool expressed delight at this most recent accomplishment: “We are proud that we put the name of Qatar in this international district energy forum. To win another two significant awards from IDEA and to be recognized amongst our industry peers is a great tribute to our dedication to excellence in the industry. We are confident that our new plant, once operational, will take Qatar Cool and the district cooling industry in Qatar to new heights.”
Khader also comments on the occasion: “customers have realized the benefits of District Cooling, which is apparent by the increasing number of singed and connected buildings every year. We are certain that the concerned governmental agencies recognize these benefits, especially considering the incurred savings in power generation and thus reductions in the carbon footprint of the State of Qatar”.
It is also worth mentioning that Qatar Cool has previously won the same awards on several consecutive years for its efforts in connecting more buildings to its district cooling network in both districts. To date, the company has been recognized for the number of buildings and space committed to district cooling outside of North America more than 10 times since the company’s inception in 2003 owing to the increasing space served through its three operational plants, which deliver more than 197,000 Tons of Refrigeration (TR) in both the West Bay and The Pearl-Qatar districts combined.
The International District Energy Association (IDEA) is a nonprofit trade association to facilitate the exchange of information among district energy professionals. Today, IDEA has over 2,000 members in 25 nations and is governed by an all-volunteer board of directors. Qatar Cool has been an active member of the association since 2003 and has won multiple international awards, including the Best District Cooling System in the World award for both districts served in 2012 and 2014.
It was also recognized by Kahramaa’s ‘Tarsheed’ program for energy efficiency for its energy conservation efforts in industrial buildings in Qatar. Most recently, the company was recognized as the ‘Best District Cooling Utility Provider of the Year 2014’ by Climate Control Middle East magazine.
