How HR Can Do More with Less

Gone are the days of plenty. HR professionals all over the world are being challenged to create greater business value while doing “more with less”. In the same time, HR is expected to find and retain top talent, how? It’s simple: get creative!

While intelligent automation gives HR an opportunity to supercharge recruiting, optimize service delivery, and streamline business processes, all while reducing costs and freeing up human capital for more strategic, value-added work. Working smartly can give you the same result and free up time to accomplish all we must do as HR professionals. We should first understand our work, how it gets done and what kind of system we operate in. Because when we think about that it becomes apparent that there’s no simple way of separating the people from the system in knowledge work domain, especially when we’re talking on a small scale.

Here are a few solutions I recommend:

Plan effectively:

“Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance”

Have a plan; a plan will help you move quickly and efficiently, so when you do get an extra pair of hands, they can get to work immediately.

 Right resourcing

“It’s all about the right people”

Once you have your plan, now you are ready to assemble your team. Volunteers, interns and temps can all be a little step in cost. Review the work you have, estimate the hours needed and prepare everything ahead of time so that when the temp arrives they are in and out in the shortest amount of time possible.

Continues Improvement

“Do more with the same, than the same with less”

Review your processes; I always remind my team that we own a lot of the processes that are in place. If those processes are taking too much time, then we should re-evaluate. Streamline everything whenever possible.

Automate for efficiencies

“Balancing the tech-human combination”

Use HR technology tools; HR systems positively impact the bottom line and have a huge impact on individual and organizational effectiveness by streamlining your processes and freeing up your HR personnel from routine employee requests and paperwork, allowing them to focus on more critical core issues. HR technology can also help bring consistency to your operation through automation and increase accuracy by reducing the need for repeated manual entry of data so that functions like payroll runs smoothly, which has a positive effect on employee morale.

It is important to mention that adopting the right combination of time-management practices can cut stress and save you up to an hour a day. You can’t be your most productive if you are disorganized and surrounded by clutter. Get rid of those random piles of paper and sticky notes and use a simple system instead.

At the end of the day you should understand the system but focus on the people too, if you want a significant change.
